Nick Foligno capped off the end of his 2016-17 season with two humanitarian awards from the NHL. Not too shabby.
He won both the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and Mark Messier Leadership Award, becoming the first player to win both awards in the same season.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community. Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin was the 2015-16 recipient of the trophy.
The Mark Messier Leadership Award is a National Hockey League award that recognizes an individual as a superior leader within their sport, and as a contributing member of society. Shea Weber, then-captain of the Nashville Predators was the 2015-16 winner of the award.
"It's really humbling," Foligno told the Blue Jackets' website following the ceremony. "This is a sign that, hopefully, things are starting to turn in the right direction for this organization. That's what I'm looking at it as, and we have a lot of work left to do."
Foligno swept the awards that he was nominated for, which could be a good omen for the rest of the Blue Jackets that are up for NHL awards. Zach Werenski is up for the Calder Trophy, Sergei Bobrovsky is up for the Vezina Trophy and John Tortorella is up for the Jack Adams Award.
The rest of the awards along with the announcement of the Vegas Golden Knights roster will take place tomorrow night, June 21 at 8 P.M. ET. on NBC Sports Network.
