The no good, very bad week for the Columbus Blue Jackets continued Friday with a fourth straight loss vs. Carolina in Nationwide Arena.

The 3-1 final was the team's third consecutive loss in regulation and fourth in total adding in Saturday's shootout loss at Tampa Bay. In the past two games, Columbus has scored just two goals.

Afterward, the team expressed some frustration but there was encouragement as well.

John Tortorella

On the game: "I thought that from the middle of the second period through the third, I thought we got better. The third period was our best period. The first period, probably for this year ... we were outskated. That team was so much quicker than we were - quicker thinkers, quicker with their sticks. We lost a lot of 50-50 battles. We weren't good, but I thought our game started coming in the middle of the second and the third was our best."

On the play of the Hurricanes: "They press you. They're fast. They're a good team. They have a very fast team. They're willing to take chances. They sit on you. Give them some credit. I hated our start. We have to try to figure out our starts. The first three shifts, it's a turnover, and it just plays right into their speed game. They played at 140 feet instead of 200 for their first three shifts, and it just gets them going. Bob gives us a chance, and I do think we were the better team in the third period. We had more chances, but we didn't score."

On the game: "It took us half a game to get ourselves going, and then we slowly got it going, but it's hard to win in when you're not playing a full 60 minutes."

"I thought it set up for us nice tonight. You may think I'm crazy, but to go into a third period 1-1 and not playing a really good game to that point, try to find a way to win a hockey game. Wipe it clean and win that period. I thought we played well enough tin that third period but we just didn't capitalize."

Alexander Wennberg

On the game: "They had good sticks tonight. I think they played a good game, and obviously we weren't on top of it. It's a tough game, but we just have to find a way to score."

On offensive frustration: "Obviously we can play well, but we have to score more than one goal. That's not enough, so we have to find a way to do it."

Markus Hannikainen

On the game: "I think we started to play our game too late. We have to do that 60 minutes every night, and I think we battled hard enough but we didn't manage the puck in the first two periods and that's why we lost."

On the short goal-scoring drought: "Everyone has to step up. We can still play better as a fourth line. Every single guy has to step up right now."
