If you saw the beginning of the Dallas Stars game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, you saw the start of this game against the Colorado Avalanche.

"Safe is death" is dead but boring hockey is most definitely alive and well.

Neither team was able to produce much in the first period with the Avalanche with the shot advantage going into the first intermission.

The second period would be more of the same but the Avalanche would be given one too many power plays, and they would cash in. Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen would make the Blue Jackets pay on the man advantage. It would deflect off of a Blue Jacket defenseman before going into the net.

The pace would pick up during the third period with the Blue Jackets peppering Avalanche goaltender Jonathan Bernier with shots, but none were very threatening. The best opportunity would be an empty net attempt from Artemi Panarin, but the puck would go over the net.

With a minute and a half left in the third period, Avalanche forward Matt Nieto would score on an empty net after the Blue Jackets got caught with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky going to the bench. Bobrovsky would try to return to the net when he realized the play was going back in their direction but he was unable to stop the Nieto shot.

Injury Update

Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray skated in a track suit today and is on the road trip with the team as he nears his return. All other players are still weeks away.
