The start to Boone Jenner's season wasn't exactly what the forward had hoped for. Missing almost all of training camp injured, Jenner had an uphill climb to getting healthy.
While he has been on the ice for three-plus months now, Jenner's game still seems to be lagging behind. In 43 games this season, Jenner has scored four goals and pitched in with eight assists for a total of 12 points. He is well below his career numbers and is on pace for his worst season outside of his rookie campaign.
"Down this stretch of games that we're going to go through, they get bigger and bigger," said Jenner to the media on Jan. 31. "It's a big part of the game the battles and grinding that way."
Jenner much like many other veteran Blue Jackets know that they have another level to their game and can be much better than what they've shown thus far.
"I think it's something we gotta work at," said Jenner. "Our battle level, the one-on-ones or anything like that. Not letting guys play to the net. I think you know that makes us a harder team to play against."
While his shot differential numbers have never been significant, Jenner has always filled up the stat sheet in different ways. Without goals and assists though, it is a battle that can be monitored as the season goes on.
"I just want to find my game," Jenner said. "(I want to) bring what I bring best, and have a stronger impact out there, like I know I can."
