The Columbus Blue Jackets dominated the New York Islanders in the shot column tonight, 49-38, setting a franchise record with 26 in the first period, but fell to their Metropolitan rival 4-3. Here's the thoughts from John Tortorella and company post-game.
John Tortorella
On whether an Islanders adjustment took their confidence away: "No."
On the Islanders' third goal: "It's just a bad pass up the wall, and then we don't recover. But we have full control of that puck, and it's a free one."
On things to be happy about going forward: "I'm not interested in discussing moral victories."
On the Islanders' fourth goal: "We had position on the fourth goal. Just totally ran out of position, and leave two guys in front of the net."
On not coming away with any points: "We found a way to lose tonight's game. I thought we showed some resiliency when they took the lead, we come back and scored to to lead going into the third. We need to play with the lead and try to carry the play."
Josh Anderson
On what the problems with the penalty kill are: "I'm not sure, maybe blocking shots. I think we've gotta get back to that, get in front of pucks and working together."
On what caused the first period success: "Everybody supporting each other and playing as a unit."
On confidence developing in the offense: "I think we can take some positives out of this game. Obviously I thought we played well enough to win, but again special teams hurt us tonight."
Cam Atkinson
On the game: "I think it was just momentum swings. It seemed like they came out jumping in the third period and got the momentum and just ran with it."
On the first period success: "We were forechecking hard, getting to the body hard, nothing fancy. Just playing typical Jacket hockey that we're use to playing."
On what's working for him personally: "I just feel confident with and without the puck, like my old self. Not afraid to make mistakes, going hard to the net, shooting as much as I can, making plays when they're there."
