Norwegian clubs Storhamar and Sparta were tied at two games each in their quarterfinal series with a pivotal game on the line Sunday.
The two teams stepped onto the ice to play. And kept playing. And playing.
Finally, after an insane eight overtime periods, featuring a combined 189 shots, Storhamar's Joakim Jensen put the winner in, giving his team game five, 2-1. The goal came at the 217 minute, 14-second mark.

The game set a new record for longest hockey game ever played, eclipsing the previous record of 176 minutes and 30 seconds, set during a playoff game between Detroit and Montreal in 1936.

- 17-year-old Sander Thoresen, the 10th forward for Sparta, gook his first shift of the night at the 149 minute mark of the game.
- Sparta played the entire game with just three forward lines, due to injuries.
- The NHL record for shots in a game is 83 (Boston, 1941). Both Storhamar and Sparta topped that total.
