Pittsburgh Penguin forward Evgeni Malkin has been suspended only one game after a violent high stick to the head of Philadelphia Flyers' forward Michael Raffl.
Malkin took a shot to the back of the head, and after that, he swung his stick at Raffl. Raffl fell to the ground and afterward Malkin was assessed a match penalty for the high sticking.
There have been plenty of incidents with Malkin, and none of them resulted in a suspension. While this is a first step to get him suspended, it feels like a more considerable oversight that he hadn't been suspended before and that this wasn't a longer suspension than what it was.
The Penguins remain in the last spot of the playoff race having played in 56 games and accumulating 65 points.
