Does anyone feel that the W-L-OTL-ROW format is too complicated and unfair?
Too complicated argument: For NBA, MLB, NFL, there is a winning percentage and this puts standings in perspective, especially because "games behind" is easier to figure out. I'm not saying it's advanced math, it just isn't neat.
Unfair: Regulation games are worth two points but overtime games are worth three? What is that? Shouldn't all games be worth the same?
Make them all three points. Win in regulation, 3 points. Win in OT, 2 points. Plus, that disincentives the tendency for cross-conference teams to settle for OT at that end of the game. Also makes the standings consumption easier: OT wins are put in perspective.
