Aside from the Expansion Draft, the NHL Draft, contract buyouts, and impending unrestricted free agency, it's the moment you've all been waiting for: new threads.
The Columbus Blue Jackets unveiled their newest home jerseys tonight after a much-hyped process in which the 31 NHL franchises would incrementally showcase a teaser of their new sweaters. Adidas even launched the #FormTheFuture campaign on various social media outlets.
NOTE: 1st Ohio Battery obtained exclusive mock-ups of the new home sweater on Monday night. You can see the mock-up here, or, we've posted an updated photo below.
We knew changes would be coming to the jerseys after it surfaced that as many as 13 teams would be seeing some real changes made to their jerseys, and Columbus was on that list. The Blue Jackets' updates appear to be minimal, but the updates were needed; striping that intersects at the collar is a sharp look, and an updated name/number font is clearer to read.
It's the same font used by the Blue Jackets in marketing material for their playoff campaign, "The March Is On."
Unfortunately, Adidas also eliminated third jerseys, but it's unsure if that will be a permanent move or not.
Another item dropped in the hours leading up to the uniform reveal: via Reddit, official NHL Draft hats for all 31 clubs were leaked.
So, Blue Jackets fans, do you approve of the new unis and draft hats? Drop us a comment and share your thoughts.
