After blowing a three-goal third-period lead on Tuesday, the Blue Jackets surrendered a one-goal second-period lead and lost 7-3 to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Thursday to fall to 8-15-5.

Here are three things from tonight's loss:

Adam Fantilli and Kent Johnson star

Fantilli scored two goals including a wicked wrist shot from Johnson, who picked up a pair of assists. After playing just 10:11 and 8;06, respectively, on Tuesday, Fantilli and Johnson played 14:51 and 14:58 on Thursday.

The Fantilli line with Johnson and Emil Bemstrom was easily the team's best on Thursday.

Defensive Breakdowns

It's not only that the Islanders scored seven goals, but it's how they scored those goals. They made life way too easy for New York. An Andrew Peeke giveaway led to the Islanders' first goal, and the Blue Jackets were in the holiday spirit, giving gifts all game long.

The Blue Jackets will not win consistently until they clean up their defensive play. It's that simple.

Another Embarrassing Loss

The Blue Jackets find more ways to embarrass themselves and their fans. After the aforementioned collapse on Tuesday, they were thoroughly out-played, especially after cutting the lead to one, allowing three goals. They were also outshot 14-9 in the third period after leading 26-21 in that department after two periods.

Next Up

The Blue Jackets are back at it on Friday when they host the Blues at Nationwide Arena at 7 p.m. ET.
