If the Columbus Blue Jackets want to avoid going a full month without a regulation victory, the task is simple: beat the best team in hockey.

That title belongs to the Vancouver Canucks, who are looking for their 30th victory of the season and will battle the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena for a 1:00 p.m. puck-drop on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Columbus has not picked up two points in regulation since a 9-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabres back on December 19th. The Blue Jackets are off until Friday after Monday's game.

Here's what else to know as Columbus and Vancouver square off for the first time this season:

TALKING POINTS: VAN

  • No team has been more of a surprise this year than Vancouver, who lead the league with 61 points. While the Blue Jackets haven't had a three-game winning streak this season (or last), the Canucks are yet to have a three-game losing streak this season.

  • Pretty much everyone on the Canucks has been on a hot streak for pretty much the entire season, but Elias Petterson has been particularly dazzling. The 25-year-old year had a breakout season last year with 106 points and is on pace to exceed that this year. His 22 goals and 35 points total up to 57 points, just one behind JT Miller's 58 for the team lead.

TALKING POINTS: CBJ

  • Sean Kuraly returns to the lineup, after missing three weeks with an upper body injury. He practiced Sunday between Alex Texier and Justin Danforth. Elvis Merzlikins is expected to get the start in net, per head coach Pascal Vincent.

  • It's an odd stat, but here it is nonetheless: when the Blue Jackets have allowed five or more goals in back-to-back games (as they have in the last two games), they've also allowed at least five goals in the following game. In other words, maybe bet the over on Vancouver at 4.5 goals.
