What a team.

James van Riemsdyk scored twice and Boone Jenner had three assists as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Daniil Tarasov made 29 saves on 31 shots to pick up his sixth win of the season. It was his first start since Jan. 28, a 3-2 win in Utah. Cam Talbot made 25 saves on 29 shots. Cole Sillinger left the game with an upper-body injury.

Columbus is 3-0-0 since the break and scored 16 goals in that span.

Everyone Gets A Goal

Following an entertaining first period with no goals, the second period was a different story.

Detroit started the scoring thanks to Alex DeBrincat’s 27th just 27 seconds into the frame. J.T. Compher picked up his 18th assist.

But then Columbus got going, scoring four times in the second period.

Van Riemsdyk scored his 13th at 4:16. Jake Christiansen added his seventh assist and Jenner picked up his third in as many games.

Sean Kuraly scored his fifth at 9:43. Mathieu Olivier (9) and Joseph LaBate (1) assisted on the goal. The assist is LaBate’s first career point.

Kent Johnson scored his 20th at 12:08 to continue a four-game point streak (four goals, two assists). He has points in 12 of his last 13 games. Johnson continues to reach new scoring highs as he hits 20 goals in a season for the first time in his career. Dante Fabbro (10) and Jenner (4) assisted.

The Jackets added one more when van Riemsdyk (14) scored his second of the game at 15:00. Jenner (5) picked up his third assist. Kent Johnson (21) picked up his second point of the game, his 100th career point.

O Captain! My Captain!

How about the captain?

In just his third game this season, Jenner recorded his second career three-assist game and stretched his point streak to three games. His elusive first goal this season has yet to come but he's making the impact everyone expected.

Jenner's first career three-assist game came on Jan. 25, 2016, in a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Due to Sillinger's mid-game absence, the Jackets had to shuffle the lines but found instant chemistry with Jenner and van Riemsdyk combining for a five-point night.

Marchenko Sets Career High

Kirill Marchenko might look a little different with his new mask but it's the same ole Marchenko.

After missing just three games with a broken jaw, Marchenko continues to score at will. Following Tuesday's two-goal game against the Dallas Stars, Marchenko scored the empty-netter at 19:03 for his 24th goal to set a new career high. Adam Fantilli added his 19th assist to continue his four-game point streak (two goals, three assists).

Marchenko is on a five-game point streak (four goals, three assists) dating back to Jan. 31.

The 'Shoe

The Blue Jackets play host to the Red Wings in the second of the home-and-home for the much anticipated Stadium Series outdoor game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 6 p.m. ET. Both teams enter the matchup tied with 66 points, holding down the two Eastern Conference wild-card spots.
