A Powell, Ohio prospect is joining the Columbus Blue Jackets prospect pipeline.
Carson Meyer was selected by the Blue Jackets in the 6th round with the 179th pick of the NHL Draft. Meyer played for the Miami (OH) Redhawks this past season in the NCAA.
In 2016-17, he played 32 games for the Redhawks, Meyer posted 26 points in his freshman season. Like many of the players selected by the Blue Jackets in the back-half of the draft, he is an overage player. He is currently 19-years of age.
Meyer came onto the radar in 2015-16 when he helped lead the United State Hockey League (USHL) Tri-City Storm to a USHL title. In the 11 games played during that postseason, he posted 11 points including five goals and six assists.
Meyer is the first Columbus-area player taken by #CBJ in draft since Trent Vogelhuber in 2007.

Meyer spoke with the Columbus Dispatch in May and talked about the possibility of playing in the NHL:
I’ve always believed I could play in the NHL, but now it’s more believable to other people, too,” Meyer said. “You see (Dublin’s) Sean Kuraly, a guy you’re friends with, score an overtime game-winner (for Boston last month) in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and it just makes it seem that much more within reach.
Meyer will continue to play for the Redhawks for the 2017-18 season.
