After grabbing a 2-0 lead in the second period and entering the third up 2-1, the Columbus Blue Jackets were outscored 4-1 in the third period largely due to self-inflicted wounds. The first three goals, which gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead, were the result of sloppy penalties committed by the Blue Jackets.
Here's the reaction from John Tortorella (who kept it brief tonight) and a few players.
John Tortorella
On penalties hurting the team in the third: "We don't deserve to win."
On the controversial Dalpe penalty: "It's a penalty. You don't give them an opportunity to make a call at that point in time."
On the ineffectiveness of the penalty kill unit: "You take stupid penalties, you don't kill 'em off. We're a dumb hockey team tonight."
Oliver Bjorkstrand
On the line with himself, Brandon Dubinsky, and Boone Jenner: "I thought we had a pretty good game, this line. I felt like we played the body, won some battles in the corners, and got to the net."
On how the game fell apart: "We got a few penalties that they obviously scored on, they were good on the power play. They got a few goals and got the lead."
Brandon Dubinsky
On the third period collapse on penalty kill: "It starts with the faceoff. The first was clean, the second one he got me. I've gotta find a way to win those.
"The first [power play goal] is a tip, we gotta try to get a lane there. The second one, the guy snaps it back on me on the face-off. Shot's going over the net and it finds a way to drop on their sticks. A couple breaks for them, and a couple breakdowns for us. But we've got to try to have a short memory. We've got a good Nashville team tomorrow."
