The Blue Jackets need scoring. The Canadiens might have some players available. A match, perhaps?
Columbus has been rumored to be interested in Canadiens center/forward Alex Galchenyuk going back to the summer. With Jarmo Kekalainen on the hunt for scoring help, it makes sense that these two parties have once again been linked together.
In his latest "31 Thoughts" column, Friedman notes that the Blue Jackets have continued to keep their eyes on Galchenyuk, who has reportedly been available for trade (depending on the week). Montreal could command a high price given Galchenyuk's talent and productivity, but that's not to say the Blue Jackets don't have the trade pieces.
If they were motivated to make such a deal, they have the ability to find a match.
Here's the full snippet from Friedman:
16. The Blue Jackets have watched Alex Galchenyuk pretty closely at times. I’m not sure if they are still interested, but they are looking for scoring.
Interesting, eh?
The 23-year-old Galchenyuk signed a three-year, $14.7 million deal this summer amidst the trade chatter surrounding him. He's scored 11 goals and 26 points in 44 games this season, and set a career high with 30 goals in 2015-16. He was Montreal's first pick, No. 3 overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft – one selection after Columbus took Ryan Murray.
