The Blue Jackets have made a move for help at forward.
Plot twist: it’s not a trade!
Columbus claimed veteran forward Jussi Jokinen off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings today, giving them flexibility as they battle through injuries and try to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Jokinen, 34, is in his 13th NHL season after coming over from Finland. He was drafted by and made his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars, and quickly became known as a skilled player with a knack for dominating in the shootout. To this day, owns one of the league’s better shootout success rates.
The Blue Jackets are Jokinen’s eighth NHL stop after previous stints with Dallas, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Florida, Edmonton and most recently Los Angeles. Jokinen was signed to a one-year, $1.1 million deal by the Oilers this summer and was traded to the Kings in exchange for Mike Cammalleri earlier this season.
Jokinen has scored 187 goals and totaled 552 points in 923 NHL games.
