Alright, so the Blue Jackets are back in the win column. That's the good news.
The bad news is they got smoked by one of the league's worst teams at even strength. The Arizona Coyotes took it to the Blue Jackets, but at the end of the day, the visitors made one more play and it resulted in two points.
Here's post-game reaction from John Tortorella and Cam Atkinson, who scored the winner in his return after missing 11 games:
JOHN TORTORELLA
On the importance of Wennberg and Atkinson coming up with a big play: "We're trying to get guys going. Cam comes back in...it's obviously a big goal. Wenny makes a couple of big plays in the second half of the game. It gets us a win and maybe it gives them a little bit of confidence. That's how you end up getting some things going your way as far as mentally being confident."
On Sergei Bobrovsky's performance: "Second half of the second period, when we just turned the thing over left and right, that's when Bob came up big. We had it going our way the first half of the second period and then we got stubborn through the neutral zone; we gave up eight scoring chances based on six turnovers. Bob made some key saves then."
On searching for their A-game: "We're still trying to find a way to play right all through (the game). It's trying to find a way to be more consistent in the way we play."
On what they need to do in the post-break schedule: "Play better. Play more consistent. But you know what? We still win two out of three games before this break. I don't think any team is going to be consistent throughout the year...you have to scratch and claw to get points. We've had a lot of guys out of the lineup. We've got to get more guys into the flow of the season. Although I'm glad we had the days (off) because of the injuries, it's tough to get a flow playing three games in 17 days."
CAM ATKINSON
On his first game back: "It was a pretty stingy game. Special teams was important for both sides. I thought we got hard on the forecheck in the third, create a turnover and capitalize on that. It was a good win."
On getting his legs back in a boring game: "It wasn't too exciting. I was just trying to get my feet underneath me, and I thought I progressed as the game went on."
On the pass from Wennberg: "He was the Wenny we all know. When Wenny's going, he just takes the play. I just have to get open."
On Bobrovsky's night: "Bob's our rock. We expect him to steal a couple, and that's what he did."
