It wasn't pretty, but the Blue Jackets won their "dress rehearsal" game on Friday night in a wild affair, 7-6 over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
John Tortorella, who is careful to not make overzealous assessments based on preseason games, was cautious but pleased with the win.
"I've got to watch the video. It was a slopfest, that's what it was," he said. "It certainly gives both teams tape as far as (what) to look at. It's really what I wanted, quite honestly. I'm not sure how Sully (Penguins coach Mike Sullivan) feels but there was a lot of special teams. So it gives us some things we can work with. At the end of preseason, that's what you want."
The Blue Jackets regular season begins on Oct. 4 in Detroit, and who knows? Ryan Murray skated this week and may be ready to play in the opener after an unfortunate skate-to-the-groin injury suffered earlier in the preseason.
