The Columbus Blue Jackets are getting some Russian reinforcements.
Defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov has officially signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Gavrikov was originally drafted by the team in 2015. Gavrikov has been playing in the KHL since then most recently playing SKA St. Petersburg.
General manager Jarmo Kekalainen via a press release about the Gavrikov signing:
"Vladislav is an outstanding defenseman who excels at both ends of the ice. He is big, strong and mobile and has enjoyed a successful career in the KHL and in international competition, including winning an Olympic gold medal last year. We are very excited about his future with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
By signing this contract, Gavrikov is eligible to play in the playoffs this season. When he is going to play or if he plays at all remains to be seen.
For now, Gavrikov gives the Blue Jackets a compelling player moving forward and a possible mainstay on the back end for years to come.
