I spoke to Adam Boqvist at practice on Thursday about playing on the top pair and the team's start to the season.

We talked during training camp about the opportunity to play on the top pair with Zach Werenski. How did that feel on Wednesday?

Boqvist: "I think we played pretty good. And obviously, I think that was a very good team we played against and hopefully, we can just build the chemistry from there and get more offense and gets more comfortable with ourselves and stuff. So it was a good start. Tough, tough loss, but I think we played a pretty good game."

Is it good to get the rust off to start the regular season?

Boqvist: "Yeah, for sure. I mean, you can feel it was the first game. So, it was nice to get that out of the way. And you know, it's gonna be fun with a home opener [Friday] [and playing against] a good team as well. So it's gonna be a fun test for us and hopefully, we can get some points from there."

Your team starts the season playing the defending Metro division champs, the three-time defending Eastern Conference champs, and a good team in St. Louis. Do you enjoy that challenge?

"Yeah, this is just how it is. I think Tampa is a good team, but we're a good team too. So we showed that [Wednesday] night in front of our home fans, it's gonna be a lot of fun and hopefully, we can get a win and then go from there."

The Blue Jackets open their home schedule Friday night at 7 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
