After dominating the first period, the Blue Jackets played a mistake-heavy second frame in their 4-0 loss to the Red Wings at Nationwide Arena on Monday night, falling to 1-2-0.

1st Period

The scoring chances started early, as Alexandre Texier's one-timer from the slot was denied by Reimer at 1:06 following Laine fanning on a one-timer of his own from Adam Fantilli.

Jackets netminder Spencer Martin made his first key save of the game at 6:52, moving laterally to deny a shot from Alex DeBrincat. That chance led to two chances from Kirill Marchenko, who missed the net at 7:18 before being denied by Reimer at 7:24.

After Kent Johnson's slap-pass to Cole Sillinger was broken up by a Detroit defender, the Red Wings went down and scored as Shayne Gostistbehere's blast from the slot beat Martin at 8:51.

Later in the period, Jack Roslovic won a puck race, circled the net, and found Emil Bemstrom in the right slot, whose shot was denied by Reimer at 15:42.

The Blue Jackets trailed the Red Wings 1-0 after the first period despite outshooting Detroit 9-5.

2nd Period

Detroit doubled its lead at 7:45 after Damon Severson's breakout pass was intercepted by J.T. Compher, who found Michael Rasmussen, who went around Adam Boqvist and beat Martin from the right doorstep.

Dylan Larkin extended the Detroit lead at 11:11 with a power play goal where he dashed through Sean Kuraly and Erik Gudbranson after entering the Blue Jackets zone.

Just 56 seconds later, Andrew Copp added a power-play tally, putting home a rebound from the doorstep at 12:07.

Detroit took a 4-0 lead and an 18-13 edge in shots on goal into the third period.

3rd Period

Following his open-ice hit on Sillinger, Detroit's Klim Kostin fought Gudbranson at 7:43.

Copp had a chance to net his second tally of the night after drawing a penalty shot at 11:45, but Martin denied him with a glove save.

The Jackets couldn't get on the board and have dropped two of their first three games to start the season.
