Adam Fantilli Scores First-Career Goal As Blue Jackets Beat Wild 5-4 In Overtime

Adam Fantilli tallied his first-career NHL goal and Justin Danforth scored his second goal in as many games to help the Blue Jackets beat the Wild at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday.

1st Period

Jack Roslovic nearly got the scoring started at 2:11 with a chance from the right doorstep, Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson made the save.

Danforth opened the scoring at 8:55 after finishing his second attempt from the left doorstep upon receiving a pass from David Jiricek, who began the play by pinching in on the right half-wall and picked up his first career assist on the goal. 

Columbus took a 1-0 lead along with an 11-10 advantage in shots on goal into the first intermission.

For the second straight game, Fantilli flirted with his first NHL goal, hitting the post with a left-circle wrist shot at 2:32.

Kent Johnson doubled the Blue Jackets' lead at 6:10, firing a laser from the top of the right circle after Cole Sillinger cleanly won the faceoff. 

Dakota Mermis answered for the Wild just 71 seconds later with a seeing-eye wrist shot from the left point. 

Minnesota tied the game 54 seconds later when Mats Zuccarello beat Elvis Merzlikins to the glove side with a wrist shot from the left slot. 

The teams entered the second intermission tied at two with the Blue Jackets ahead 33-16 in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Jonas Brodin gave Minnesota its first lead of the night at 4:42 with a right-slot wrist shot over Merzlikins' right shoulder. 

Roslovic had another magnificent chance to score, this time with a one-timer from below the left circle at 5:34.

Boone Jenner scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season at 7:36, cleaning up a net-mouth scramble.

Minnesota thought they took a 4-3 lead at 8:15 with a Zuccarello power-play goal, but the Blue Jackets challenged it for offsides and were successful. 

Fantilli found the net for the first time in his NHL career on the power play at 14:41 with a right-circle wrist shot. 

Marcus Johansson tied the game with a left-circle wrist shot at 17:01. 

Kirill Marchenko dangled through Wild defenders but missed wide at 19:44.

The clubs headed to overtime tied at four with the Blue Jackets leading 50-26 in shots on goal.

Overtime

Roslovic finally found the back of the net at 3:07, slicing through defenders and firing a wrist shot from the right slot past Gustavsson to win the game.

With the victory, the Blue Jackets improved to 3-2-0.

The Blue Jackets return to Columbus to take on the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Ohio.
