Dmitri Voronkov Scores First Career Goal But Blue Jackets Lose 5-3 To Stars

Dmitri Voronkov tallied his first NHL goal but the Blue Jackets were no match for the Stars as they lost 5-3 to Dallas at American Airlines Center on Monday night. 

1st Period

Dallas opened the scoring at 0:27 on a two-on-one rush where Jason Robertson's cross-ice feed found Thomas Harley at the left doorstep for the goal.

Former Blue Jacket Matt Duchene had a golden opportunity to double the lead at 4:12 after a Jake Bean giveaway but was denied by Elvis Merzlikins.

On the ensuing rush at 4:37, Voronkov scored his first career NHL goal when he finished off a centering feed from Cole Sillinger, who received the puck from a no-look backhand feed from Kent Johnson.

Damon Severson gave the Blue Jackets the lead at 13:41 with a knuckling left-circle blast at four-on-four. 

Columbus took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission while trailing 9-7 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Roope Hintz tied the game at 5:52 when he deflected a point shot from Robertson. 

Dallas thought they took the lead at 9:37 with a Mason Marchment goal, but the Blue Jackets won an offsides challenge. 

The teams were tied at two entering the third period with Dallas leading 18-13 in shots on goal. 

3rd Period

Duchene gave the Stars the lead at 2:49, scoring on a wide-open net from the right circle. 

Evgenii Dadonov doubled Dallas' lead at 12:25 on a sharp-angle shot from the bottom of the right circle. 

Wyatt Johnston extended his team's lead with an empty net goal at 16:20.

Sean Kuraly cut the Dallas lead to two at 17:08, capitalizing off a rebound in front of the net with a backhand shot from the right doorstep.

The Stars won 5-3 and handed the Blue Jackets their fourth-straight loss. Columbus is now 3-4-2.
