Columbus Blue Jackets players are beginning to return to town, unofficially marking the beginning of hockey season with training camp on the horizon.
Right around the same time, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team takes the field and takes a lot of the attention with it. This coming Saturday, Ohio State takes on Oklahoma at Ohio Stadium - and the nation's most popular college football pre-game show, ESPN's College GameDay, will be coming to town.
They always get a big name to be the "guest picker" for the show, and typically, you'll see a former Buckeye doing the honors. But what if they switched it up and brought in a Blue Jackets player to take center stage and show off their college football acumen? These are the three players that should get a shot at it.
Brandon Dubinsky
Dubinsky is a big football fan. It mostly centers around the National Football League (NFL) and the Kansas City Chiefs, but nonetheless, he has a knowledge base of the sport.
Dubinsky also has a no-nonsense personality, which would be fun to watch mixed with the other personalities on the show. He also knows how to get Columbus fans to rally behind him. Maybe tell him that big Michigan Wolverines fan Sidney Crosby is the other guest picker?
Sergei Bobrovsky
We don't know how much Sergei Bobrovsky knows about American football, but having him on would bring an instantly-recognizable name to the Columbus faithful. His ability to tell jokes like he does during post-game scrums would be valuable as well.
College GameDay is a mess of humanity and Bobrovsky is one of the few names in the city that could get a crowd into a fever pitch.
Zach Werenski
The troll factor here is off the charts and might be enough to get fans into a tizzy. For those unaware, Werenski went to the University of Michigan for two years and is diehard Wolverines. It would be amazing to see the crowd's reaction when a beloved player has to make his picks.
Would he get mercilessly booed just because of his alma mater? What if he picks against Ohio State just out of spite? There are too many good storylines here and Werenski checks off a lot of fun boxes.
