Try not to get excited, but we have big news: The ice appears to be ready in Nationwide Arena.
After teasing fans for the past few days, the Columbus Blue Jackets posted a video this afternoon (see above) showing what appears to be a beautiful new ice surface in the team's downtown home.
The surface will be broken in exactly two weeks from today – yes, it's true – with a preseason game Sept. 19 against Chicago. The season opener, meanwhile, is almost exactly a month away, with Columbus opening things in Nationwide on Oct. 6 vs. the division rival New York Islanders.
That's right: In a couple short weeks, our long, hockey-less nightmare will be over. Get excited.
