Who says the Tuesday before the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs has to be boring?
The Blue Jackets recalled goaltender Oscar Dansk from the Cleveland Monsters a day before their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
According to Blue Jackets' GM Jarmo Kekalainen, Dansk will serve as the third goaltender during the playoffs.
The Blue Jackets' press release on the call up highlights the season he had in Sweden before coming over to the AHL.
Dansk, 23, was assigned to Cleveland on April 5 after spending the past two seasons with Rogle BK in the Swedish Hockey League where he has compiled an 18-34-4 record, 2.81 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and four shutouts in 60 games. He went 6-15-1 with a 2.99 GAA, .903 SV% and two shutouts in 24 appearances with the club this season
Dansk is considered a long-term project and this ensures that he will get some NHL-level tutoring in the process. He will be considered a "black ace," which is a term given to players called up after the regular season ends as they do not count against the team's roster limit. Unless a catastrophic injury takes place, the likelihood of these players getting in a game is very low.
The Jackets and Pens kick things off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
