You just watched the game. Odds are you thought a certain player had a great night, and you're wondering if the numbers back up what your eyes told you. Even if that's completely false, "Battery Mates" is here to help.

We'll pick our own three stars based on Game Score, a comprehensive individual performance metric developed in the hockey analytics community. For more on how Game Score works, read this.

These are 1st Ohio Battery's three stars from a Game 82 win at Air Canada Centre:

MATT CALVERT [GAME SCORE: 1.64]

In a performance that will make our own Jeff Svoboda very happy, Matt Calvert delivered some reassurance in a strong outing Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jackets need their depth players to start producing and it had been a while between goals for Calvert, but he scored an important goal in the second period to get Columbus on the board and start the three-goal rally. Calvert was given plenty of ice time today with a handful of regulars taking the night off, and recorded his first multi-point game in over a year. He finished the game in the negative in 5-on-5 Corsi, but delivered two of the key plays in the game.

BOONE JENNER [GAME SCORE: 1.34]

John Tortorella reunited Jenner with Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson for this game, and we saw signs of them being an aggressive, forechecking trio that causes trouble for opposing defenses. Jenner bagged another point by picking up an assist, and finished the game +5 in 5-on-5 shot attempts during the game.

GABRIEL CARLSSON [GAME SCORE: 1.12]

It has been quite the cup of coffee for young Gabe Carlsson, who has been thrown right into the fire down the stretch with the Blue Jackets trying to snap out of a skid and get their 50th win of the season. Tortorella gave him minutes with Seth Jones yesterday, and today, Carlsson was paired in the first period with David Savard. He got his first NHL point today and was +4 in 5-on-5 attempts in nearly 15 minutes of game action. An impressive showing for the young man in his first two NHL games.
