This is big.
A couple months ago, it appeared as though the Blue Jackets and Cam Atkinson would wait until after the season to discuss their future together. Something changed, and boy, did it change fast.
The Athletic's Aaron Portzline broke the news late Thursday night – Atkinson and the Blue Jackets agreed to terms on a seven-year contract worth $5.85 million per season. That's a total of $41.125 million, which is a lot of money, and money well-spent by GM Jarmo Kekalainen to keep one of his top offensive players in the fold for what could be the rest of his career (or pretty close to it).

Atkinson's new deal has him under contract – an affordable one at that – through the 2024-25 NHL season.
We'll update this story once the team confirms the news.
UPDATE: First reported by The Dispatch's Steve Gorten – Atkinson's contract carries a cap hit of $5.85 million, not $5.75 million.
