After reading up on how RFAs work and the draft pick compensation, I have a question.

What if a team doesnt have the pick still. For example, the CBJ does not own a 2nd round pick this year.

Everything I have read says except for multiple 1st rounders, the compensation HAS to be your own pick from the designated round.  But where I read that is from an old article.

Does anyone know if that is still true?   That would make it awkward to get your pick back just to do an offer sheet.
