Hit by a plethora of injuries and exposing a lack of depth. The Columbus Blue Jackets needed a player to step up and put up points.

They haven't been able to find much thus far, but they did get an unlikely player to step up in a critical moment. A moment he likely wouldn't have been in if it weren't for injury.

Forward Jordan Schroeder notched an assist (that should have probably been a goal) during the third period that began the comeback rally. He was playing significantly more ice time due to Sonny Milano's absence due to injury.

When asked about the increased ice time, Schroeder was excited to see the ice more.

"It felt really good," said Schroeder. "I felt like my game was building over the past few games. I knew I was destined to have a good game. You know, I was even confident going into this game with the puck, and I think it showed tonight."

While the amount of time played wasn't a season record for Schroeder, it is the most he has played in five games. It is a new found trust that the coaching staff gave him.

"Personally, it was a big relief," Schroeder stated when asked about removing the zeroes next to his name on the score sheet. "Getting the monkey off the back, first of the year but not only that, it was a big boost for our team. Down 2-0 over halfway through the third, able to get a bounce. They say it doesn't matter how it goes in as long as it does."

Schroeder is a journeyman at this point in his career, and he is trying to carve a path finally. Playing as he did against Toronto will only help his situation.
