With less than a week until the NHL's trade deadline, prepare for the chatter.
The Blue Jackets are teetering on the playoff line and have critical games this week against the New Jersey Devils (tonight) and Philadelphia Flyers (Thursday) before the deadline. GM Jarmo Kekalainen has his work cut out for him, trying to find the most sensible way to improve his team for the stretch run.
About a month ago, rumors began to surface in earnest regarding the Blue Jackets' potential interest in Rick Nash, a pending UFA in New York. They have the cap space to accommodate such a deal and also the need for a goal scorer, and the player has a brief history with coach John Tortorella.
Here's what TSN's Pierre Lebrun said tonight on "Insider Trading":
"It's picking up as you'd expect...5-6 teams have begun to tell the Rangers 'here's the pieces we could part with.' I'm told, to varying degrees, Nashville, Columbus, Dallas, Winnipeg and Boston among those teams that we believe have shown interest."
Lebrun went on to say it's a certainty that Nash will be traded before Monday's 3 p.m. ET deadline. Stay tuned.
