Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella won his 127th game Saturday night in Edmonton with a 7-3 victory over the Oilers, moving him into a tie at the top of the franchise record books for wins by a coach.
Tortorella is tied atop the franchise wins list with Todd Richards, who coached the Blue Jackets from 2012 to 2015, when he was relieved of his duties one month into the season. Tortorella achieved the 127 wins in 26 fewer games than Richards.
Coach | Years | GC | W | L | T | OTL | Win % |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
JOHN TORTORELLA | 2015–CURRENT | 233 | 127 | 86 | – | 21 | .543 |
TODD RICHARDS | 2012–15 | 260 | 127 | 112 | – | 21 | .488 |
KEN HITCHCOCK | 2006–10 | 284 | 125 | 123 | – | 9 | .440 |
DAVE KING | 2000–03 | 204 | 64 | 106 | 21 | 13 | .397 |
GERARD GALLANT | 2003–07 | 142 | 56 | 76 | 4 | 6 | .430 |
In nearly three seasons in Columbus, Tortorella is 127–86–0–21, good enough for a .543 winning percentage, which is far and away the best of any coach in the club's history.
Tortorella will have a chance to claim the mark outright with his 128th win Thursday night in Calgary.
