An odd weekend led to an even-odder game.

Regardless, the tank continues on.

BLUE JACKETS 1 1 1 0 3
BLACKHAWKS 1 0 2 1 4

The beginning of the game looked like another opportunity for the Blue Jackets to run away with the game early. They got the puck rolling their way and because of it, they were rewarded with a goal from forward Stefan Matteau on a breakaway. Kole Sherwood would get his first point of his career on a secondary assist. Despite the strong start for the Blue Jackets, the Blackhawks bounced back with a power-play goal from Duncan Keith before the end of the first.

As the second period began it was another opportunity for the Blue Jackets to put a stamp on the game. Instead, it was more of an up and down period that was finished with a silly penalty. Despite that, Patrik Laine would once again get on the score sheet with a goal and put the Blue Jackets in front. The end of the period was mired by a silly penalty from Max Domi and the Blue Jackets would be on the kill as they entered into the third period.

The third period began and despite the Blue Jackets killing the penalty that Domi committed, the Blackhawks got on the board quickly after. They scored twice in fairly quick succession with goals from Phillip Kurashev and Brett Connolly to give them a lead in the third. The quick run made it seem like it was the Blackhawks game to lose but Patrik Laine had other thoughts. An unassisted goal where he went coast to coast tied the game up. The Blue Jackets rallied behind the goal and pushed the Blackhawks but couldn't get a goal to solidify the win.

In the extra frame, Brandon Hagel got the winning tally for the Blackhawks and gave the Blackhawks the extra point.

Injury Update

The Blue Jackets are without Zach Werenski and Boone Jenner for the season as both had season-ending surgeries. Gus Nyquist is still out after shoulder surgery and has an unknown timetable.
