It is time to see what new faces can do. It appears that the Blue Jackets are going to give rookies a chance.
Winning outcome or not, it doesn't appear that it matters.

It hasn't been slow starts that have doomed the Blue Jackets this season. They have gotten out to leads multiple times. They just have not been able to hold onto it. In the first period, Jack Roslovic gave the Blue Jackets the lead and looked the part of a top-six center in the process.

Going into the second period, the Blue Jackets had ample opportunities to add to their lead. They couldn't find the right combination and looked a lot like an AHL club. Can't blame them since most of them are AHL players. The Stars late in the second period within a minute and a half of them Denis Guiranov and Miro Heiskanen scored goals to give the Stars a lead.
Heading into the third with a one-goal deficit, the Blue Jackets were facing an uphill battle. It was made even more difficult after Guiranov scored another goal off of the shin of Michael Del Zotto putting Columbus in a big hole with only half of the period left. Joe Pavelski would add to the Stars lead giving them another insurance goal to ensure the win.
The Blue Jackets didn't have the personnel or the passion tonight and it produced a listless showing for the fans.
Injury Update
The Blue Jackets are without both Boone Jenner and Zach Werenski due to season-ending surgeries. Emil Bemstrom is on an unknown timeline due to injury. Gus Nyquist is also on an unknown timeline after offseason shoulder surgery.
