There's a new hockey league coming to Columbus.

This summer, the Cap City Summer Elite League will make its debut. Per its website, the league "Our league provides local elite level players with competitive off-season hockey and gives our local hockey community an unmatched fan experience. All games will be open to the public and free of charge!"

The league consists of four teams that carry the name of its sponsor, 614 Hockey captained by Sean Kuraly, High Bank Distillery Co. captained by Carson Meyer, Bladetech Hockey captained by Cole Sillinger, and The Battery captained by Cam Atkinson. The league's management consists of JC Campagna to run the day-to-day operations, Pat Cannone as a player liaison, Joey Nahay in marketing and fan engagement, with Nick Petraglia serving as commissioner.

The games start on July 11 and per the site, "players must be 18 years old and have played a minimum of one season of Tier II junior hockey or above."

A similar league to this is the North Shore Inline Hockey League outside of Vancouver which includes current and future pros Kent Johnson, Connor Bedard, and Andrew Cristall.

This new league is a great thing for both the players participating in it and the fans around the Columbus area who will have free access to competitive summer hockey. This is a good step into helping build Columbus into a hockey-crazed city, if it isn't already.
