First off, what a tournament. I don't think anyone could have predicted the success that the 4N Faceoff was. So, kudos to NHL/IIHF/whoever came up with this instead of the normal All-Star format. Won't be surprised to see an NBA copycat of this next year. And speaking of next year, I am SO excited for the NHL to return to the Olympics. The USA team that was put together for this tournament was tremendous.

Back to the purpose of my post...

I alluded to my views on the icing call in another post. I will disclose that I was cheering for USA. And as such, I really feel like icing should have been waved off because Hughes was going to make it to the puck first. He had beaten his man on the wall and was clearly overtaking the skater toward the middle of the ice.

However, my biggest disagreement with the call was that the ref used his discretion to blow the play dead before either skater touched up on the puck (ref was assuming Canada skater would touch up first).

This led to the faceoff in the US's zone, Canada wins the faceoff, and then Connor McDavid was left inexplicably wide open in the slot. No chance in Hellebuyck that he could have saved that.

Does anyone have a clip of the icing call? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
