Does anyone know why this is a big deal?
At least once per day for the last week, someone has offered a social media take (the best!) about Islanders rookie Josh Ho-Sang's decision to wear No. 66. These opinions have not been too complimentary of Ho-Sang, who apparently violated some non-existent rule about wearing 66.
Yes, we know. Mario Lemieux made 66 famous. Can you IMAGINE the horror of someone else wearing that number?
Lower your pitchforks, hockey Twitter. After a week of silly questions about why he's wearing 66, Ho-Sang said his decision to do so is purely out of respect:
"It's weird because I wore it in junior and no one ever really bugged me about it," Ho-Sang told Sportsnet. "And then I get to the NHL and it's like a really big deal. So it kind of hit me pretty hard."It's just interesting, even people who just take the time to say stuff about it, I mean, I think I made it pretty clear that, for me, it's no disrespect. If anything, it's the ultimate respect, I think."
For the record: Ho-Sang hasn't heard from Lemieux about it.
