Welcome to 2017, where winning streaks are apparently bad in the NHL.
Four NHL clubs had winning streaks of at least 10 games this season. None of them made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Team | Win Streak | Result |
---|---|---|
COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS | 16 GAMES | LOST 4–1 to PITTSBURGH in EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS |
MINNESOTA WILD | 12 GAMES | LOST 4–1 to ST. LOUIS in WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS |
CALGARY FLAMES | 10 GAMES | SWEPT by ANAHEIM in WESTERN CONFERENCE QUAR |
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS | 10 GAMES | DID NOT QUALIFY for PLAYOFFS |
Combined, the four teams went 2–12 in their Stanley Cup Playoffs quarterfinal series.
That's not a good look.
The Blue Jackets' 16-game winning-streak from Nov. 29, 2016 to Jan. 3, 2017 was the second-longest winning-streak in NHL history. The Wild's 12-game streak (Dec. 4-29, 2016) is tied for the eighth-longest streak in league history.
The Flyers became the only franchise to ever post a 10-game or better winning-streak and miss the playoffs.
Win streaks: clearly bad.
