Welcome back, Sam.
Sam Gagner would probably have preferred to buy a goal, the way things were going. Name your price, hockey gods!
He last scored on Dec. 23 against the Montreal Canadiens - the Blue Jackets' 12th straight win in a streak that nearly tied the NHL's all-time record - but had gone dry in two-plus months since. Perhaps most frustrating for Gagner was that he had been getting the looks, and rang a few goal posts along the way. Despite the drought, John Tortorella kept him on the power play and gave him an opportunity to work through it.
The Blue Jackets' power play, which sat #1 in the NHL for most of the season, has dropped [extreme sarcasm voice] all the way to eighth-best as we hit the stretch drive of the regular season. And, perhaps fittingly, Gagner broke his goal-scoring drought on the same power play that's offered him a platform for a rebound season with Columbus. His goal brought the Blue Jackets within one late in the third period, but they would eventually fall 3-2 to the Senators.
