On July 1, Alexander Wennberg becomes a restricted free agent.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been through this song and dance before. They have negotiated contracts with multiple young players.

Their next big negotiation is going to be with Wennberg, who is due for an increase in pay after a great season. The Swedish centerman finished this past season with career highs in goals, points, and assists.

Wennberg has made the first move in the quest for a new contract.

According to a Sports Business Journal report, Wennberg has switched agents by going with Pat Brisson and Creative Arts Agency (CAA).

Brisson represents the biggest names in hockey. His list of current clients includes Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks), Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles Kings) and Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks).

Wennberg also joins teammate Seth Jones with Brisson at CAA.

Before his move to a new agency, Wennberg was represented by Octagon's Hockey division.

The timing of the move is curious and only adds more intrigue to the contract negotiations.
