Rookies Sonny Milano and Pierre-Luc Dubois, both first round draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, scored their first career NHL goals Friday night in the Jackets' 5-0 win over the New York Islanders.
Milano started the party, putting the Jackets up just 1:07 into the game on a quick shot from in front of the crease that beat Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss through the five hole. The goal was set up by a nifty pass from Oliver Bjorkstrand behind the net.
Dubois put the cherry on a three-goal second period when he capped the scoring on a nifty wrist shot from the slot that beat Greiss to the far post. Defenseman Seth Jones got the assist on the goal with a chip to keep the puck in the offensive zone.
With Ryan Murray and Zach Werenski's second period goals, four of the five Blue Jackets goals on the night were scored by first round selections of the franchise. That's a powerful statement for a club that's spent the better part of its existence drafting poorly.
