It's all hitting the fan for the Minnesota Wild.
Their 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night was overshadowed by an improbable run of injuries. They finished the game with eight forwards, and entering tomorrow's game against the Blue Jackets, the Wild have only nine healthy forwards after recalling forward Luke Kunin from Iowa (AHL).
Zach Parise remains sidelined. Marcus Foligno, younger brother of Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno, was injured in a fight and will miss some time. The Athletic's Mike Russo gave a thorough rundown of the Wild's dire situation, which forced them to send defenseman Mike Reilly to the AHL just to recall Kunin.
The Wild are expected to provide injury updates Saturday morning, but myriad sources told The Athletic on Thursday night and Friday morning that the early reports look like Niederreiter suffered a sprained ankle that isn’t as serious as your typical high ankle sprain, Foligno suffered a potential broke cheekbone and Coyle suffered a potential fracture to his tibia and/or fibula.
Center Mikael Granlund is also out with an injury and will not be available for Saturday's game at Xcel Energy Center. According to Russo, the Wild are aiming to place Charlie Coyle on long-term injured reserve, which would give them room to recall additional players.
In a word: yikes.
