Sonny Milano Becomes Top American-Born Rookie Goal Scorer in Blue Jackets History

An odd franchise record has been broken by an unlikely player.

Forward Sonny Milano has set the new Blue Jackets record for goals by an American-born rookie. The previous record holder was Zach Werenski (as of last weekend) with 11 goals. Milano has passed with 12 after scoring a big goal last night, and he will have plenty of opportunities to add to it as the season winds down.

Other names below Milano and Werenski on the list are Cam Atkinson at seven and Dan Fritsche with six in their rookie campaigns.

For a team that has had solid American players on their team, the Blue Jackets haven't had many developed in their own system. Atkinson is now a perennial 20-goal scorer but his rookie campaign didn't start out as such.

To be at the top of the list is still impressive and shows a bright future for Milano, the Blue Jackets' first-round pick in 2014.
