For the first time in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets are going to the playoffs for a second straight season.
Securing a point by going to overtime Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Blue Jackets have a total of at least 97 points and a seven-point lead over the ninth-place Florida Panthers. The Panthers only have six available points remaining.
That means a Stanley Cup playoff berth is now locked down for the Blue Jackets.
It will be the fourth playoff appearance in franchise history.
The Blue Jackets are the NHL's hottest team since the trade deadline, with an impressive 14-3-1 mark since acquiring Thomas Vanek, Mark Letestu, and Ian Cole. Even three-goal deficits can't slow this team.
It's still largely up in the air as to who the first round match-up will be for the Blue Jackets, with possibilities including the Penguins, Devils, Flyers, Capitals and Lightning.
