The Blue Jackets have high hopes for 18-year-old French center Alexandre Texier, whom they signed to a three-year entry level deal today.
Their second-round pick in 2017 (No. 45 overall), Texier just completed his first season with KalPa in Finland's top pro league, Liiga. In 53 games with KalPa, Texier scored 13 goals and added nine assists. He also played for the French national junior team in the D1-A tournament this past season (and in 2017), as well as the men's World Championships which just wrapped up in Denmark.
Here's Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen on Texier's signing, via team press release:
"Alexandre is a very smart, skilled player with a very good shot and extraordinary vision to make plays all over the ice," said Kekalainen. "He is a young player who had a very good rookie season with KalPa and we are excited to watch his continued development as he gets bigger and stronger physically."
Texier is expected to return to KalPa for a second season in 2018-19.
Texier, the youngest player for KalPa in 2017-18, was third on the club in goals, tied fourth in game-winning goals (two), tied fifth in power play goals (two), sixth in penalty minutes and ninth in total points.
