Pierre-Luc Dubois Scores Twice Against Former Team As Kings Beat Blue Jackets 5-1

Pierre-Luc Dubois lit the lamp twice against his former club as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 on Tuesday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

1st Period

Johnny Gaudreau thought he opened the scoring at 9:54 but the Kings successfully challenged the play for goaltender interference. 

Quinton Byfield would open the scoring with a highlight-reel goal at 18:22 when he danced around Zach Werenski and scored with a backhand shot. 

The Kings took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission along with a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal. 

2nd Period

Dubois doubled the Kings' lead at 1:27 on the power play with a left-circle shot after receiving an end-to-end bank pass from Brandt Clarke.

Adam Boqvist answered with his first goal of the season to cut the Columbus deficit in half at 4:41 after banking the puck off Cam Talbot from below the goal line. 

Dubois scored his second of the game from the doorstep at 11:49 to put the Kings up 3-1.

Los Angeles thought they extended their lead to 4-1 at 18:15 on a goal by Drew Doughty but the Blue Jackets successfully challenged for goaltender interference.

The Kings led 3-1 after two periods and took a 24-15 advantage in shots on goal into the third period.

3rd Period

Jack Roslovic had the team's best chance of the period at 14:44 with a short-handed breakaway but he missed the net before finding Boone Jenner in front of the net where he was denied by Talbot.

Kevin Fiala extended the Kings' lead on the power play with a right-circle wrist shot at 15:56. 

Doughty made it 5-1 at 19:37 with a blast from the point past Elvis Merzlikins.

With the 5-1 loss, the Blue Jackets fell to 17-27-10.

Injury Update

  • Patrik Laine entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and will be away from the team indefinitely.
  • Adam Fantilli suffered a calf laceration on Jan. 28 and is expected to miss eight weeks.

The Blue Jackets play against the Ducks in Anaheim on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Ohio.
