That was not the sort of home game we're accustomed to this season.

Travis Konecny scored twice to help the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 on Tuesday night at Nationwide Arena.

Noah Cates and Owen Tippett scored in the first period. Morgan Frost had two points with a goal and an assist.

Zach Werenski, Sean Monahan, and Kent Johnson scored for Columbus.

Samuel Ersson made 15 saves for the Flyers. Elvis Merzlikins stopped 19 shots.

The Blue Jackets' five-game point streak at home is over as they fall to 8-4-1 on home ice.

Here's how it all went down:

1st Period:

The first period was a bit of a feeling-out process for Columbus who didn't look like the team that came into play 7-1-1 over their last nine home games.

Perhaps they were still feeling it and finding their legs after their five-game road trip out west.

Noah Cates started the Flyers' scoring to put them up 1-0 before the Blue Jackets had their first shot. Cates' goal was his second of the season at 4:33 of the first period. Tyson Foerster (4) and Cam York (2) assisted on the play.

Owen Tippett (9) added to the Flyers lead at 10:56 to make it 2-0. Tippett has five goals in five games. The assists went to Jamie Drysdale (3) and Frost (8).

2nd Period:

Looking for some kind of a jolt in between periods, instead, it was more of the same by the Flyers as they added to their lead.

Konecny's 14th goal came on the power play at 6:11 to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Matvei Michkov (15) and Bobby Brink (9) had the assists.

If there would be a jolt for the Blue Jackets, maybe it would come by way of Mathieu Olivier's fists.

Olivier and Nick Seeler fought at 10:51 with Olivier coming away with the win. The fight was in response to a hit by Olivier on Emil Andrae at 8:19 of the second period. Initially deemed a major penalty, the officials rescinded the penalty to be a two-minute minor for elbowing.

Trying to solve Ersson and get some energy in the building, the Blue Jackets got on the board thanks to their MVP.

Werenski's ninth of the season came on the power play to cut the deficit to two goals and make it a 3-1 game. The goal is the 99th of his career and his nine goals ties Cale Makar for the most goals among defensemen this season. Kirill Marchenko (17) picked up the assist.

However, the energy in the arena was short-lived.

Konecny's second of the game and team-leading 15th of the season at 19:00 made it 4-1. The assists went to Joel Farabee (7) and Seeler (8).

3rd Period:

Frost added the third-period insurance marker to give the Flyers the 5-1 lead. Michkov (16) added his second assist of the night.
